What are your convictions based on someone’s idea or the word? The Bible says, let everyone speak truth to his neighbor. In fact it is one of the ten commandments. Paul said in writing to the Corinthians, 1st Corinthians 1:10, that we all speak the same thing, of course he was talking or writing to the church at Corinth, so it still applies to the church today. Lets face the facts, if we are not speaking the same thing, then someone is not speaking the truth. Now I know we can use different terminology but it will mean the same thing.

Jesus said, I am the way, the truth and the life. If Jesus said, I am the way, I am the truth then when it comes to Gods word, there is no truth outside of Jesus. Proverbs 3:3, Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about their neck; write them upon the table of thine heart. Jesus said when He, the Spirit of Truth is come He referring to the Holy Spirit, He will guide you into all truth and the only truth is the word of God. Mans ideas, mans way is not necessary the truth, only if these things are based on the word, with no room for doubt. You know there’s nothing like knowing the truth, although there are times when it is not the best thing to hear at certain times. That statement sounds contradictory, no sometimes the truth may hurt but in the end it will heal.

God told the prophet Jeremiah to speak his word, whether they hear or forbear, makes no difference, speak what I tell you to speak. Jeremiah was told to speak the truth, the message that God had given him. Didn’t sound good in some ears, but it was the truth, but it was what God had told him to speak. It wasn’t what people wanted to hear but it was surely what they needed. In this day when you speak the truth you’ll be surely put in the pit, figuratively speaking.

It is very important to line things up with the word of God. If it don’t line up with the word, then there is a great big “?”

Paul warned that in the last days people would steer away from the truth and give heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils and that is so because a lot of the new age philosophy is being introduced through so called leaders. The question, what is truth ? Someone may say I can tell what is true and what is not. There is one sure thing and this I know, and have proven, I have seen and heard a lot of things in the past fifty years or so, but there is one thing I do know and am sure, that when it comes to spiritual things, the Holy Spirit will bear witness to the truth because He can’t bare witness to nothing else only the truth.

Friend, don’t be fooled, there is truth and there is error and sometimes things look so real but don’t I say, be fooled.

The truth will not bring you in bondage, the truth will set you free.

Spiritual truths can only be tested on the basis of the word.

This was a question asked by Pilate in St John’s gospel chapter 18:38, after Jesus had answered Pilates first question. Jesus declared that He came to bare witness of the truth. The Bible says, 1st Timothy 3:15, in relation to the truth, that the house of God which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. I’ve said that to lay a foundation somewhat for what I’m about to present.

How do you determine what is true and what is not true, or what makes things to be true or false. There must be some factor that justifies whether things are true and on what basis. In what someone does, who’s to say what is right or what is wrong, there must be some justifiable factor put in place to come to a definite conclusion. If what I say here is right, then there has to be some factor to prove it’s right. I do not want to get too technical, I want to try and keep it simple.

When this nation was being built, there was a slogan like this, “His dominion will be from sea to sea” in other words, Jesus shall reign where e’er the sun, or God would be the leading one truth and justice based on nothing else only the word of God, which is the truth. Tell me why when one stands in a court of law, what is the first thing they have the witness to do ? To place one hand on the Bible, and raise the other hand, and take oath to say they will tell the truth and nothing but the truth.

Now I am quite aware that things can be a little complicated here because you can get the natural things mixed up with the spiritual, so I would like to keep it within the confines of the spiritual. There has been a lot of do’s and don’ts through the years and rightly so, some of these do’s and don’ts were very good, but what were they based on ? Now you can do it or it looks like it there, there is not many don’ts you can do most anything and it’s ok. My friend, let me say this, if these don’ts was based on the word of God forty, fifty years ago, they are just as valid now as they were then.

I am going to use one in particular, and I’m quite aware it is a very touchy one but based on the truth. Prior to Jesus leaving this earth, He told his disciples to tarry in Jerusalem until they be endued with power or until they were filled with the Holy Ghost. The Bible says, they waited 10 days until the Holy Spirit came. Now I am very much aware that the Holy Spirit has been on the earth ever since indwelling in believers, but not always manifesting himself as on the day of Pentecost. No I am not saying that God don’t call anyone to ministry unless they have the Baptism in the Holy Spirit because I know the difference, but I’m sure if God calls He will surely equip. If He don’t equip I would question the calling. Someone may say, what are you trying to say ? What you believe years ago was in based on the truth of Gods word or was it based on some denominational doctrines. What is truth, the pillar of the church.

A preacher once said to me, Lester don’t go against your convictions.

I will continue on this one.

For the past three or four sermonettes I have been dealing with the church, it’s place and work in the world, and with the Holy Spirit in relation to its work in the church and purpose in the believer.

I don’t profess to be a Bible scholar, but I profess to be a Bible believer because of that I am a bible believer. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would guide us into all truth, therefore any believer in Christ should not be confused with what the Bible says.

For example, if the Bible says ye must be born again as in John 3:7 then the Bible says ye must be born again. I have a problem when I see the word of God being analyzed and almost explained away; again in Saint Marks gospel, which I referred to earlier in a previous sermonette, if there are signs that follow the believer, then there are signs that follow the believer; therefore if the signs don’t follow, ask your own self the question, am I really a believer. Having said all this, I’d better get to what I intended to say from the start.

I know I am only touching on things, I have not gone into any great depth but there is so much, so I am just laying a basic foundation for any one person to accept. My thoughts have somewhat been focused on Genesis Chapter 8. We know of course that is where Noah was about to come out of the Ark. If you note, he first sent out a raven (Genesis 8:7). The Bible says the raven went forth to and fro because I’m sure the raven being the kind of a bird he is, could find lots of dead carcasses to feed on because he is a scavenger isn’t he ? But in chapter 8 verse 8 Noah sent out the dove, the Bible says the dove came back, now we know the dove speaks of peace, gentleness, a bird easily to be driven away , yet easily entreated.

Which symbolizes the Holy Spirit; the dove came back because it could not find no place to rest it’s feet. Noah reached out and pulled her in unto him, the Holy Spirit is looking for a place to rest, a place in peoples hearts. Any place the Holy Spirit is at work, it is not very hard to discover.

Noah sent her out again, she returned in the evening with an olive leaf, the Bible says it was plucked off. How the Holy Spirit wants to pluck men and women from the things of this world and give the new life and bring them to Jesus of which the Ark was symbolic, a place of refuge, a place of safety. I know places today the Holy Spirit is not welcome, although they sing it but sorry to say, the Holy Spirit will not stay where there is any type of corruption, unbelief.

Read Galatians 5:19-21. The Holy Spirit will not stay among these things. We need to invite the Holy Spirit in and clean up, and be prepared to let Him stay and rest upon our lives. He brings peace, love, joy, etc.. if we allow Him to stay.

I know this is only a touch on the fringes of reality, the Holy Spirit will bring new life if any man be in Christ he is a new creature. I’m convinced today that in some places the Holy Spirit is looking for a place to rest.
